Return of the Monstrous Feminine

I made this project collaboratively with Kira Held, who asked me to shoot the images for her senior thesis as a graphic design major at RISD. Kira planned and creatively directed the project, and I photographed and directed it. We pulled from many inspirations, which include but aren't limited to Petra Collins’ OMG I’m Being Killed, Girls & Corpses magazine, the video game Lollipop Chainsaw, Jennifer’s Body, Carrie (1976), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Pearl. Here is the research question that Kira based the project around: What horrors are inherent to womanhood (with an emphasis on adolescence) and how are they portrayed or alluded to in New Wave Feminist horror media and media with horrific elements?
